     29.  Mary Apt4 KROUSKOP (George3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 22 August 1804 in Delaware County, New York and died 19 September 1866 in Logan County, Ohio at age 62. She was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Logan County.

     On 1 April 1828 in Logan County Mary married Absalom SAPP who was born between 1801 and 1810 in Maryland. He died between 1840 and 1850 in Knox County, Ohio. Absalom was a millwright in Mt. Vernon, Clinton Township, Knox County and it was here his family was enumerated in the 1830 and 1840 censuses. A deed between Uriah Patrick and Delila, his wife, and Absalom Sapp was entered 27 March 1832. On an 1847 Knox County landowners map for Pike Township, A. Sapp was designated as the owner of a 62-acre property he purchased from David House. The location was Range 12, Township 10, Sections 19 southwest corner and 22 north side northeast corner.

      Mary was head of household in the 1850 federal census for Pike Township, but by 1860 resided in Bellefontaine, Logan County, Ohio with her brother John F. Krouskop and family, as did Mary’s youngest son John Franklin Sapp.

     Known children of Mary Apt4 KROUSKOP and Absalom SAPP, all born in Knox County, Ohio, were as follows:

            +   88       i.    Elizabeth M.5 SAPP, born 27 April 1829; married Jacob R. HALL.

            +   89      ii.    Mary Jane SAPP, born 11 June 1832; married James Henry VANCE.

                 90      iii.    Zohar B. SAPP was born 9 August 1834. A master carpenter, he died 11 August 1907 in Logan County, Ohio at age 73, and was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, Lake Township, Logan County. Zohar served in the Civil War as a private in Company A, 13th Regiment Ohio Infantry from 7 May 1861 to 25 August 1861.  He was also a private in Company G, 1st Western Sharpshooter from 1 October 1861 to 9 September 1863. Interestingly, on the internet was found a listing for Company F, 66th Regiment Illinois Infantry, Zohar B. Sapp, who enlisted in Bellefontaine, Logan County , Ohio 31 October 1861, private, and who deserted 6 June 1862. On 5 August 1862 in Logan County Zohar married Margaret HELLINGS, the daughter of Abel James and Mary (Gabriel) Hellings, who was born circa 1843 in Logan County. She died between 1880 and 1900 in that county. The couple had no children.

                 91     iv.    Sarah Ellen SAPP was born 8 August 1836 and died 14 January 1837 in Knox County, Ohio.

     31.  Elmira4 KROUSKOP (George3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) a twin, was born 24 April 1809 in Hancock, Delaware County, New York and died 18 May 1877 in Liberty Township, Logan County, Ohio at age 68. In her father’s will Elmira was left only ten dollars and she was excepted from receiving any money arising from the sale of residue personal property remaining at the death of her father’s wife.

    Elmira married William CREVISTON 28 October 1830 in Logan County. He was born 5 May 1804 in Ohio, the son of Joseph and Rebecca (Shephard) Creviston of Bedford County, Pennsylvania, and died 12 January 1872 in Logan County at age 66. William was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Logan County.

                 97     iv.    William J. CREVISTON was born 31 August 1840. He died 11 September 1841 in Logan County, Ohio at age 1, and was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson County, Logan County.

                 98      v.    Jackson CREVISTON was born 23 April 1844 and died 31 December 1870 in Logan County, Ohio at age 26. He was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson County, Logan County.

                 99     vi.    Wilson CREVISTON was born 26 January 1846 and died 1 April 1846 in Logan County, Ohio. He was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson County, Logan County.

               100    vii.    Milton CREVISTON was born 26 January 1846. He died 1 April 1846 in Logan County, Ohio, and was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson County, Logan County.

               101    viii.    Rebecca CREVISTON was born 25 September 1847 and died 22 April 1881 in Logan County , Ohio at age 33. She was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Logan County. On 7 March 1878 in Logan County Rebecca married James W. ARMSTRONG who was born 25 October 1854 in Ohio, the son of John and Mary E. (Hannah) Armstrong. He died 30 March 1919 in Bellefontaine, Logan County at age 64. The cause of death was uremic coma with the contributing factor of influenza. John was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery. The couple had a son George, born 26 December 1878 and died 22 January 1879; and a daughter Burtha, born 28 December 1880 and died 1 May 1881. Both were buried in Tharps Run Cemetery.

 

     32.  Sarah Ann4 KROUSKOP (George3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 1 September 1812 in Delaware County, New York. She died 16 July 1891 in Jefferson Township, Logan County, Ohio at age 78, and was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson Township.

     On 13 May 1835 in Logan County Sarah married James HENRY, the son of William and Nancy (Stevenson) Henry, who was born 24 May 1815 in Jefferson Township, Logan County. He was elected justice of the peace for Monroe Township, Logan County in 1879. After Sarah died he married Mary Kyle circa 1892 in Logan County. It was her third marriage. Mary was born circa 1831 in Pennsylvania and married first William Clark, who was born in Pennsylvania, and had a son Jacob and a daughter Anna Jane. William died and Mary married second Jacob Oaks circa 1872 and had a daughter Amanda and son James Franklin. Mary’s daughter Anna Jane Clark married Jacob Oak’s son Jeremiah Oaks.  James Henry died 1 July 1900 in Logan County, Ohio at age 85, and was buried 5 July 1900 in Tharps Run Cemetery.

     Known children of Sarah Ann4 KROUSKOP and James HENRY, all born in Logan County , Ohio, were as follows:

               102       i.    Isaac S.5 HENRY was born 18 June 1836 and died between 1910 and 1920 in McClure, Henry County, Ohio. He was buried in Richfield Cemetery there. Isaac married first Susannah DICKINSON 21 February 1861 in Logan County, Ohio. She was born in that county in 1836, the daughter of Robert Leroy and Rebecca (Stevenson) Dickinson, and died 19 January 1892 in Henry County at age 56.  Isaac married second 19 October 1892 in Hancock County, Ohio Catherine SWANK who was born in February 1850 in Ohio. She was married previously and had one child; Swank was her married name. Catherine died between 1920 and 1930 in Henry County.

               105     iv.    Richard M. HENRY was born 23 May 1843 and died 27 April 1901 in Monroe Township, Logan County, Ohio at age 57. He was buried in Fairview Cemetery, Liberty Township, Logan County. Richard married Susan Estella PARR 11 November 1888 in Logan County. She was born in 1869 in Champaign County, Ohio, the daughter of Stephen Silas and Susan (Kerns) Parr.

     33.  John F.4 KROUSKOP (George3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 26 May 1816 in Logan County, Ohio. He died 6 August 1899 in Union County, Ohio at age 83, and was buried in Byhalia Cemetery, Washington Township, Union County.

     On 18 December 1834 in Logan County John married Christina LEASE who was born 1 August 1815 in Ohio. She died 8 January 1890 in Union County at age 74, and was buried in Byhalia Cemetery.

      John was head of household on the census of 1840 in Lake Township, Logan County, Ohio. When Auglaize County, Ohio was erected in 1848 land owners in Goshen Township, according to tax duplicates for that year, included John F. Krouskop; however he and his family appear never to have lived in that county. They remained in Lake Township through the 1860 census, then moved to Washington Township in Union County.

               117     ix.    Absalom KROUSKOP was born 2 June 1855 and died 14 October 1862 in Logan County, Ohio at age 7. He was buried in Byhalia Cemetery, Washington Township, Union County, Ohio. He may have been named after his father's sister Mary's husband Absalom Sapp who died before 1860, perhaps around 1854/1855.

               118      x.    Stephen KROUSKOP was born circa 1859 and died 1 October 1862 in Logan County, Ohio.

 

     35.  Richard4 KROUSKOP (George3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 23 July 1822 in Logan County, Ohio. He died 21 September 1861 in that county at age 39, and was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Logan County.

     On 21 March 1855 in Logan County Richard married Margaret W. WILGUS. Born in February 1839 in Lake Township, Logan County, she was the daughter of Samuel and Margaret (Daisy) Wilgus and sister of Phoebe Jane who married Richard’s brother William Thomas Krouskop (see #36 below). After Richard died Margaret married second William Vance Morrison 31 October 1867 in Logan County. He was born circa 1800 in Ohio and died 20 April 1869 in Logan County. She married next 19 October 1871 in Logan County William Duvall who was born circa 1821 in Ohio and died in Logan County 20 March 1873. Finally Margaret married fourth Harrison Clawson 4 August 1877 in Logan County. He was born 4 April 1821 in West Virginia and died 12 November 1886 in Auglaize Township, Allen County, Ohio at age 65. The couple had a daughter Daisy born 20 August 1879. Margaret died of mitral insufficiency 16 September 1914 in Allen County at age 75. Both she and Harrison were buried in Auglaize Cemetery, Auglaize Township, Allen County.

     Known children of Richard4 KROUSKOP and Margaret W. WILGUS, all born in Lake Township, Logan County, Ohio, were as follows (out of birth order):

               120      ii.    Elizabeth Maud KROUSKOP was born in 1859 and died 21 September 1891 in Harrod, Allen County, Ohio at age 32. She was buried in Auglaize Cemetery, Auglaize Township, Allen County. Elizabeth married William T. MURRAY 2 July 1880 in Allen County. He was born in April 1859 in Auglaize Township, the son of Thomas and Martha (Dennis) Murray, and died in either 1941 or 1944 in Allen County. The couple had two children: Floyd H., born in October 1880; and Esta D., born in June 1885, both in Allen County. Esta married 1 January 1903 Earl James HEFFNER, the son of Harrison Harry and Clara (Blair) Heffner, who was born 27 August 1880 in Ohio and died of coronary disease 17 May 1937 in Auglaize Township at age 56. He was buried in Salem Cemetery there. William married second Jeannette Maude Hastings 30 July 1910 in Allen County. She was born circa 1882 in Ohio and died 10 January 1942 in Lima, Allen County.

               121      iii.    Margaret Alwilda KROUSKOP was born in 1856 and died 7 April 1856 in Logan County, Ohio. She was buried in Tharps Run Cemetery, Jefferson Township, Logan County.

 

     36.  William Thomas4 KROUSKOP (George3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 22 July 1826 in Logan County, Ohio. He died 16 April 1902 in that county at age 75, and was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery, Zanesfield, Logan County.

     On 21 March 1855 in Logan County William married Phoebe Jane WILGUS who was born in February 1837 in Lake Township, Logan County. She was the daughter of Samuel and Margaret (Daisy) Wilgus and sister of Margaret who married William’s brother Richard Krouskop (see #35 above). Phoebe died 8 January 1902 in West Mansfield, Logan County, Ohio at age 64, and was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery.

               122       i.    Mary Alice5 KROUSKOP was born 11 May 1856. She died 18 February 1873 in Lake Township, Logan County, Ohio at age 16.

               126      v.    David Watson KROUSKOP was born 31 July 1868 and died 13 October 1950 at age 82. The cause of death was pneumonia following a fracture from a fall in his home. He was buried 16 October 1950 in Bellefontaine Cemetery, Lake Township, Logan County, Ohio. David married Margaret PATTERSON 7 October 1891 in Logan County. She was born in May 1874 in Ireland and came to the United States as a young child. The couple had a daughter Margaret born 23 September 1892 and died in 1893.

               128    vii.    Edward M. KROUSKOP was born 14 November 1874 and married Ola SEAMAN 25 June 1898 in Logan County , Ohio. He died 3 April 1940 in Sidney, Shelby County, Ohio at age 65, and was buried 6 April 1940 in Bellefontaine Cemetery, Lake Township, Logan County. Ola, the daughter of William and Hannah (Milner) Seaman, was born 19 July 1875 in Logan County. She died 22 August 1964 in Bellefontaine, Logan County at age 89, and was buried 24 August 1964 in Bellefontaine Cemetery. The couple had no children.

               129    viii.    Frederick N. KROUSKOP was born 14 November 1874. He died 21 April 1955 in Logan County, Ohio at age 80, and was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery, Zanesfield, Logan County.

     37.  George4 GILLILAND (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 7 January 1814 in Pickaway County, Ohio. He died 1 October 1886 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio at age 72, and was buried in Hamilton-McCoy Cemetery, Jackson County. George served as treasurer and justice of the peace of Hamilton Township.

     On 21 February 1837 in Jackson County George married Julina CANTER, the daughter of John and Barbara (Walls) Canter. She was born 5 May 1816 in Ohio and died 27 February 1899 in Jackson County at age 82. Julina was buried in Hamilton-McCoy Cemetery.

     Known children of George4 GILLILAND and Julina CANTER, all born in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio, were as follows:

               131       i.    Sarah Jane5 GILLILAND was born 24 June 1838 and died of liver cancer 21 April 1913 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 74. She was buried 23 April 1913 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. Sara married 18 December 1855 in Jackson County Samuel RIEGEL, the son of Daniel and Christena (Schultz) Riegel, who was born 3 September 1832 in Ohio. He died from a fractured hip suffered in a fall in Jackson County 13 March 1925 at age 92, and was buried 15 March 1925 in Fairmount Cemetery. Sarah and Samuel had three sons, all born in Jackson County. David W. was born 16 October 1856 and married Dora E. SPOHN 17 September 1882 in Jackson County. He died of influenza 29 April 1933 in Jackson County at age 76, and was buried 3 May 1933 in Fairmount Cemetery. Alva W. was born in November 1863 and married Mary E. GAHM, the daughter of Jacob and Katherine (Ekhart) Gahm, 5 January 1892 in Jackson County. Mary was born 24 January 1865 in that county and died there of broncho-pneumonia 8 April 1924 at age 59. She was buried 11 April 1924 in Fairmount Cemetery. Charles F. was born 6 February 1872 and died of colon cancer 23 September 1940 at age 68 in Jackson County. He was buried 25 September 1940 in Fairmount Cemetery.

               132      ii.    [--?--] GILLILAND, a son, was born 18 February 1840, and was buried in Stephenson Cemetery, Jackson County, Ohio.

               133      iii.    Washington A. GILLILAND was born 25 February 1841. He died between 1900 and 1910 in Fayette Township, Lawrence County, Ohio, and was buried in White Cottage Cemetery, South Point, Lawrence County. Washington married  Hulda Elizabeth BROWN 31 January 1867 in Pike County, Ohio. She was born circa 1846 in Ohio and died of hemorrhaging around 1883. She may have had a miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. Washington and Hulda had four children, all born in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio. Rebecca Jennie was born 14 November 1867. George Franklin, known as Franklin and Frank, was born 30 July 1872 and died of lobar pneumonia 18 August 1937 in Athens, Athens County, Ohio at age 65. He was buried 21 August 1937 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio. Franklin married Mary A. DICE, the daughter of Benjamin and Julia (Clazing) Dice 25 December 1905 in Lawrence County. Charles W. was born 25 February 1873 and died in February 1952 at age 79. He married Ruby Bernice LEMON in Ontario, Canada and they resided in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Ada J. was born 22 September 1877 and died of a cerebral hemorrhage 16 December 1931 in South Point, Lawrence County at age 54. She was buried 19 December 1931 in White Cottage Cemetery there. Ada married 20 September 1901 in Lawrence County James Frank MANN, known as Frank, the son of John F. and Sarah (Sullivan) Mann. After Hulda’s death Washington soon married Mrs. Anna B. McKenny. His children did not get along with his new wife, whom they called cranky and irritable. Charles Gilliland's nickname for Anna was "Mrs. Moose" for her big nose. Anna and their infant son died during childbirth. Following her death, Washington turned all of his minor children out of the house and told them to find other places to live. Son Charles remembered walking the ten miles down the road to a relative of his mother, where he lived until adulthood. It appears Washington had a volatile personality only exacerbated by drink. Perhaps his behavior and the turning out of his children so strained his relationship with other members of his family that he sold his farm in Hamilton Township, Jackson County and move to Lawrence County. He appeared in the census of 1900 in Burlington, Lawrence County.

               134     iv.    Harrison H. GILLILAND was born 29 August 1843 and died 18 October 1880 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 37. He married first Elizabeth Jane DAUGHERTY 24 September 1867in Jackson County. Jane, as she was known, was born circa 1848 and died giving birth to daughter Ida, born 13 December 1871. She and Harrison also had a  daughter Letitia May, born 15 March 1870, who married David Ellsworth JENKINS, the son of Charles V. and Frances (Smith) Jenkins, 3 September 1895 in Jackson County. Harrison married second Isabelle 'Ibbie' Frances NICHOLAS 7 March 1874 in Jackson County. She was born circa 1853 in Ohio. The couple had children Bertha Edith, known as Edith, born 16 February 1876 and died in 1942 in Michigan at age 66, who married Herbert Smith HADDEN, the son of Charles William and Ella Marie (Smith) Hadden, 29 March 1905 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio ; and twins Wilbur H. and Walter J., born 14 May 1880.  Walter died 3 June 1880.

               135      v.    Samuel J. GILLILAND was born 26 November 1845 and died 10 July 1886 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio at age 40. He died of injuries suffered when a tree fell on him. Samuel was buried in Hamilton-McCoy Cemetery, Jackson County. On 13 December 1866 Samuel married Elizabeth May LYONS, the daughter of Thomas and Deanna (Mathews) Lyons, who was born 19 October 1846 and died of mitral stenosis 31 December 1926 in Hamilton Township at age 80. She was buried 2 January 1927 in Hamilton-McCoy Cemetery. Their known children were Mary A., born 4 October 1867 and died of stomach cancer 27 November 1938 at age 71 in Harlan Township, Warren County, Ohio, who married Jacob F. LEFFLER 25 December 1892; Luella J., born 9 November 1868 and died of uremia 8 February 1936 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio at age 67, who married Michael EHRMAN 20 February 1890 in Scioto County, Ohio; Melvina, born in March 1870 and died before 1880; William, born 12 November 1872 and died 27 November 1961 at age 89 in Riverton, Fremont County, Wyoming, who married Andrea ‘Rea’ Christine SUNDAHL 15 May 1899 in Nebraska; Effie E., born 1 May 1875 and died of pulmonary tuberculosis 4 April 1912 at age 36 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, who married Jacob KEAIRNS 12 March 1893; Thomas B., born 23 August 1876 and died 19 June 1857 in Jackson County at age 80, who married Dora TAYLOR 8 March 1901 in Scioto County; Walter C., born 22 October 1878 and died 23 November 1961 at age 83 in Pike County, Ohio, who married Mary Barbara KUNTZMAN 6 September 1906 in Pike County; Everett D., born 16 October 1883 and died 26 August 1963 in Jackson County at age 79, who never married; and Margaret Belle, born 7 December 1884 and died 5 December 1975 at age 91, who married William J. JONES 21 June 1910.

               136     vi.    John S. GILLILAND was born 20 June 1848 and died 6 May 1878 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio at age 29. He married 15 July 1975 in Jackson County Minerva Jane PLUMMER, the daughter of Ephraim and Martha (Russel) Plummer, who was born 15 April 1851 in Ohio and died of paralytic dementia 18 January 1922 in Coal Township, Jackson County at age 70. She was buried 21 January 1922 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. Following John’s death Minerva married second General Taylor Leonard 1 May 1880 in Jackson County.

               137    vii.    George Madison GILLILAND was born 30 August 1850 and died of cerebral apoplexy 28 December 1918 in Bloom Township, Scioto County, Ohio at age 68. He was buried 30 December 1918 in Hamilton-McCoy Cemetery, Jackson County, Ohio. George married 22 March 1875 Elizabeth BEADLE, the daughter of Abner and Florence (Pierce) Beadle, who was born 8 November 1856 in Jackson County. The couple had children Florence, born circa 1876; Eliza T., born circa 1879; Jacob Delmar, born 29 September 1884 and died 15 February 1968 at age 83 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio; and Adda May, born in November 1889 who married William Jacob PEACH, the son of Charles and Lavina (Hopkins) Peach, 14 May 1905. George and Elizabeth divorced and she reclaimed her maiden name of Beadle. She died of an intestinal obstruction and peritonitis 28 June 1920 in Columbus at age 63.

               138    viii.    David Wallis GILLILAND was born in December 1852 and graduated from Ohio University, Athens, Athens County, Ohio with a degree in teaching. He married Olive Nancy BROWER circa 1885. She was born 7 September 1854 in Carroll County, Ohio, the daughter of Isaac and Susanna (Hamilton) Brower. After marrying the couple resided for a time in Emerson, Dixon County, Nebraska. In the 1900 federal census they and their daughters were enumerated in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri where David was a teacher. By 1910 he was principal of Fort Apache Indian School on the White Mountain Apache Reservation in Navajo County, Arizona, and Olive and their daughters remained in St. Joseph. In 1914 David taught in the Seneca Indian School in Wyandotte, Ottawa County, Oklahoma and in 1918 was in charge of the Indian School at Clarkdale, Yavapai County, Arizona. David and Olive appeared on the census of 1930 in East Nob Hill, Yakima County, Washington, and it was in this county he died 4 April 1934 at age 81. David and Olive had three children. Son Jay Ellsworth was born 14 August 1886 in Bancroft, Cuming County, Nebraska and died there 3 July 1887. Daughter Edith was born 6 August 1892 in Burt County, Nebraska and died 1 November 1985 in Linn County, Oregon at age 93. She married Warren Enoch HAWLEY 28 May 1917 in Walla Walla County, Washington. He was born 13 April 1885 in Whatcom County, Washington, the son of Robert Emmett and Lydia Emma (Sheffer) Hawley, and died 20 April 1972 in King County, Washington at age 87. It was his second marriage. Daughter Ethel Lura was born 9 April 1890 and married 12 June 1907 in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri Herman Gerhardt STERLING, the son of Henry C. and Elizabeth S. Sterling, who was born 1 October 1887 in St. Joseph. In 1917 Ethel and Herman lived in Kansas City, Missouri and in 1920 were in Clarkdale, Yavapai County, Arizona. Herman worked for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Herman remarried in 1932 so it is possible Ethel died as she cannot be found in the 1930 census. Herman died 13 April 1955 in St. Joseph at age 67.  Ethel and Herman had a son Ellsworth Charles who was born 1 April 1913 in Missouri and was with his Gilliland grandparents in the 1930 federal census in Yakima County. He died 9 May 1991 in Orange County, California at age 78.

               139     ix.    Warren H. GILLILAND was born 27 December 1854. He died of an enlarged and infected prostate gland 4 April 1928 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio at age 73, and was buried 6 April 1928 in Hamilton-McCoy  Cemetery, Jackson County.  Warren married 2 September 1879 in Jackson County Katherine 'Katy' ELizabeth REED who was born 13 January 1858 in that county, the daughter of John and Caroline (Motz) Reed. She died of apoplexy 15 May 1920 in Jackson County at age 62, and was buried 18 May 1920 in Hamilton-McCoy Cemetery. The couple had 11 children, seven of whom survived to adulthood. Their children, all born in Hamilton Township, were Charlotte B., born 18 July 1880 and died 21 August 1881 at age 1; Jessie Flo, born 3 November 1881 and died 5 March 1963 in Scioto County, Ohio at age 81, who married Andrew Jackson LANSING 5 June 1904; Edward E., born 1 October 1883 and died 26 June 1893 at age 9; David C., born 13 December 1885 and died 9 December 1927 of diphtheria at age 41 who never married; Carl Franklin, born 18 June 1888 and died 4 August 1976 at age 88 in Jackson County, who married Mary Elizabeth POETKER circa 1921; Eugene, born 26 April 1890 and died 18 June 1891 at age 1; Orpha Mae, born 15 October 1892 and died 12 February 1968 in Portsmouth, Scioto County at age 75, who married Lewis E. POWELL 20 September 1913; Elmer Henry, born 19 March 1895 and died 20 April 1974 at age 79 in Portsmouth, who married Mabel L. DIXON 12 February 1920; Verna Elizabeth, born 7 March 1897 and died in Jackson County of rheumatic heart disease 28 December 1953 at age 56, who married Clarence Jacob GAHM, circa 1919; Lucy Jane, born 7 March 1899 and died 9 February 1983 in Jackson County at age 83, who married Glendon Lee JOHNSON 1 February 1921; and Clara Ethel, born 15 March 1901 and died of a cerebral hemorrhage 17 May 1909 at age 8, who was buried 18 May 1909 in Hamilton-McCoy Cemetery.

               140      x.    Franklin GILLILAND was born 17 September 1857 and died 8 December 1940 in Alhambra, Los Angeles County, California at age 83. He married 10 March 1891 in Wayne County, Nebraska Effie Jeanette CAMPBELL who was born 12 February 1871 in Steuben County, New York and died 30 November 1955 in Los Angeles County at age 84. Their children, all born in Dixon County, Nebraska, were Stewart Manford, born 7 April 1899 and died 28 March 1969 at age 69 in Alhambra; Leona Francis, born circa 1903; and Ira Franklin, born 11 March 1905 and died 29 July 1983 at age 78 in Fresno, Fresno County, California.

               141     xi.    Mary Alice GILLILAND was born 24 October 1860 died of arteriosclerosis 2 February 1931 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio at age 70. She was buried 5 February 1931 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County, Ohio. On 22 June 1882 in Jackson County Mary married Joseph Marion SPRIGGS. He was born 26 July 1857 in that county, the son of Joseph J. and Elizabeth (Reynolds) Spriggs, and died of cardiac decompensation 19 January 1944 in Jackson County at age 86. Joseph was buried 22 January 1944 in Fairmount Cemetery. Their known children, all born in Franklin Township, Jackson County, were Herbert Wendell, born 15 April 1885 and died 4 May 1970 in Jackson County at age 85, who married Grace S. SMITH; Julina M., born in July 1887; Ora, born 4 February 1890 and died 16 February 1967 at age 77 in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio; Eva Hazel, born 18 December 1893 and died of cardiac insufficiency and nephritis 26 December 1937 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio at age 44, who married William A. DIBBLE 29 December 1936 in Franklin County; Ada Belle, born 31 March 1896 and died 16 November 1965 in Largo, Pinellas County, Florida at age 69, who married Ford D. MOTZ  24 June 1926 in Summit County, Ohio; and Clarence Raymond, born 6 September 1899 and died 7 September 1974 in Jackson County at age 75.

 

     38.  Elizabeth4 GILLILAND (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 17 December 1815 in Jackson County, Ohio and died 30 June 1882 in Jefferson Township, Jackson County at age 66. She was buried in Horton Cemetery, Jackson County.

     Elizabeth married 11 February 1836 in Jackson County William HORTON, the son of John and Mary Barbara (Radabaugh) Horton, who was born 6 August 1814 in that county. He died 18 July 1878 in Jefferson Township at age 63, and was buried in Horton Cemetery.

               142       i.    Samuel G.5 HORTON was born 20 January 1837. He died 12 October 1839 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 2, and was buried in Horton Cemetery, Jackson County.

               143      ii.    Mary HORTON was born 30 July 1838. She died 15 February 1903 in Canadian County, Oklahoma at age 64, and was buried in Grand River Cemetery, Jameson, Daviess County, Missouri. On 26 November 1857 in Jackson County, Ohio Mary married George C. STIFFLER who was born 30 July 1837 in Ohio, the son of Henry and Jane (Campbell) Stiffler. He served in the Civil War in Company F, 129th Ohio Volunteer Infantry from 4 August 1863 to 5 March 1864. George died of chronic nephritis 23 May 1911 in Tipton, Moniteau County, Missouri at age 73, and was buried in Grand River Cemetery. Mary and George had children Sarah Frances, born circa 1860 and died 10 April 1898 in Daviess County, Missouri who married William L. KELLEY 19 February 1876 in Jackson County; Sardenia Adaline, born 29 June 1861 and died between 1910 and 1920 in Moniteau County, Missouri; Elizabeth J., born circa 1863; William Sherman, born 28 March 1865 and died 17 October 1911 in Maryville, Nodaway County, Missouri at age 46; Martha L., born in December 1867 and died in 1930 at age 62, who married circa 1888 Orville O. WINCHELL; Isabel Cora/Cora Belle, born 12 January 1870; and Emma May, born 16 March 1872, who married John W. CROMLEY circa 1900.

               144      iii.    Sarah Ann HORTON was born circa 1840. She married Philip JOHNSON 22 November 1855 in Jackson County, Ohio and they resided in Scioto Township, Jackson County. Philip was born circa 1837 in Jackson County, the son of James and Isabelle (Yeager) Johnson of Virginia, and died 7 February 1866 in Jackson County. The couple had children Mary E., born circa 1855; Lovina J., born in 1856 and died 1 August 1896 at age 40, who married James E. HOWE 24 September 1876 in Jackson County; Elizabeth E., born in 1860; James William, born in August 1862 and died in May 1948 at age 85, who married Almeda GARRETT; and Philip H., born circa 1865, who married Sarah A. HATTEN 6 February 1887.

               145     iv.    John H. HORTON was born 25 January 1842 and married Nancy J. CUMMINS, the daughter of Pliny and Elizabeth (Morrow) Cummins, 1 January 1863 in Jackson County, Ohio. She was born 16 June 1845 in Lawrence County, Ohio and died 17 July 1902 in Jackson County at age 57. Nancy was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township in that county. The couple had daughters Margaret, born circa 1864, who married Charles W. ALKIRE 1 November 1900 in Jackson County; and Mary, born circa 1866 who died before 1900. John married second 18 October 1906 in Jackson County Nancy Anna WEST, known as Anna, who was born 10 April 1851 in that county, the daughter of David Cahill and Elizabeth (Baxter) West. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage 3 April 1937 in Jackson County at age 85, and was buried 5 April 1937 in Beaver, Pike County, Ohio. John died of uremic poisoning 25 December 1920 in Jackson County at age 78, and was buried 28 December 1920 in Fairmount Cemetery.

               146      v.    Elizabeth Jane HORTON was born in 1844 and married Martin Van Buren COLLINS 3 September 1863 in Jackson County, Ohio. She died 23 September 1889 in Wood County, West Virginia at age 45.  Martin was born 3 April 1843 in Giles County, Virginia. After Elizabeth’s death he married Martha Jane Farnesworth 4 December 1890 in Wood County, followed by Ruhanna Carder 10 November 1906 in that county. He died 10 September 1926 in Wood County at age 83.

               147     vi.    Nancy HORTON was born 2 July 1846. She died 12 September 1847 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 1, and was buried in Horton Cemetery, Jackson County.

               148    vii.    Martha Ann HORTON was born 29 September 1848. She died 8 March 1872 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 23, and was buried in Horton Cemetery, Jackson County.

               149    viii.    William Henry Harrison HORTON was born 2 February 1852 and married Jane YEAGER 12 October 1873 there. He died 27 July 1885 in Jackson County at age 33, and was buried in Horton Cemetery, Jackson County. Jane, also known as Jennie, was born 6 April 1858 in Jackson County, the daughter of Samuel and Permelia (Delaney) Yeager, and died of a cerebral hemorrhage 15 April 1942 in Jackson County at age 84. She was buried 17 April 1942 in Horton Cemetery. The couple had children Verna May, born in November 1874, who married James Arthur MCCLURE 24 December 1890 in Jackson County; Calvert S., born circa 1876; Flora Etta, born in November 1879 who never married; and Jessie, born in March 1882 and died 12 May 1958 at age 76, who never married.

     39.  Samuel4 GILLILAND, Jr., (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 25 April 1818 in Jackson County, Ohio.  He died 16 July 1881 in Jefferson Township, Jackson County at age 63, and was buried in Antioch Cemetery in that county.

     On 25 October 1838 in Jackson County Samuel married Elizabeth Ellen BUCKLEY who was born 17 November 1815 in Ohio. She died 16 October 1899 in Jackson County at age 83, and was buried in Antioch Cemetery.

He died 22 October 1897 in Pike County, Ohio at age 57, and was buried in Beaver Union Cemetery, Beaver, Pike County. On 7 January 1862 in Jackson County, Ohio William married Mariah C. DEVER, the daughter of Noah and Emeline (Bean) Dever, who was born 19 January 1841 in Jackson County and died of infirmities of old age 30 June 1939 in Marion Township, Pike County at age 98. She was buried 2 July 1939 in Beaver Union Cemetery. The couple had children Noah Dever, born 7 July 1863 and died of a coronary occlusion 10 June 1944 in Marion Township, Pike County at age 80, who married Rachel Abigail ALLARD 10 January 1886 in Pike County; Watson E., born 6 June 1866 and died 2 January 1951 in Pike County at age 84, who married Miranda F. WESTFALL 31 March 1889 in Pike County; E. George, born 1 September 1870; and Otto, born in 1873 and died in 1875 at age 2.

               153      ii.    Sarah E. GILLILAND was born 16 August 1841and married first Thomas M. FRAZIER 10 September 1859 in Jackson County, Ohio. He was born circa 1834 in Ohio, the son of Joel and Cynthia Frazier of Virginia, and may have died in the Civil War. Sarah married second William CALLAHAN 21 August 1866 in Jackson County. He was born in November 1840 in Ohio and died 23 February 1904 in Jackson County at age 63. William was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township in that county. Sarah died of a uremic coma due to nephritis and arteriosclerosis 12 February 1918 in Jackson County at age 76, and was buried 14 February 1918 in Fairmount Cemetery. Sarah and William had children Samuel Oliver Hutchison, born 16 September 1867 and died in Jackson County 8 September 1944 at age 76, who married Margaret Madge BERTSCH; Martha Hannah, born in November 1869; George Clifford, born 17 December 1875, who married Jennie Julia MORROW; and William Gilliland, born 20 April 1880, who married Blanche A. JOHNSON 11 August 1909.

               154      iii.    Samuel Buckley GILLILAND was born 24 November 1842 and served in Company K, Ohio Cavalry in the Civil War. He died 20 August 1925 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California at age 82, and was buried in Los Angeles National Cemetery. Samuel married circa 1868 Isabella Jane SHEETS, the daughter of Austin C. and Sarah Catherine (Curry) Sheets, who was born in 1849 in Center Township, Howard County, Indiana, and they moved to Portlandville, Plymouth County, Iowa where their children were born. Known children were daughter Frankie M., born in February 1869 who married [--?--] MATHEWS of Louisiana and had sons Pearce Robert and John S. in Childress County, Texas; Mary Grace, known as Grace, who was born circa 1874 and married first Ira Woods HASKETT and had a son Ira Jackson and daughter Thelma, and married second Ora A COPELAND circa 1908; Adyth C., born circa 1876; Samuel K., born in August 1878 and died 22 February 1962 at age 83; Austin Garfield, born 25 October 1881 and died 3 April 1944 in Butte County, California at age 62, who married Josephine STOKSTAD circa 1913 and divorced between 1920 and 1930; and George S., born 10 October 1883. Samuel and Isabella divorced between 1884 and 1900 and he moved to Flagstaff, Coconino County, Arizona where he farmed and was a timber scaler.

               155     iv.    Elizabeth J. GILLILAND was born 21 May 1844 and died in February 1889 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 44. She was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. Elizabeth married 26 August 1866 in Jackson County Wellington C. EVANS, the son of Evan and Polly B. (Cherrington) Evans, who was born 20 January 1840 in Camba, Jackson County. He served in Company A, 1st Ohio Heavy Artillery in the Civil War and was a store clerk and for 11 years an agent for the M&C Railroad. Wellington married second 15 October 1893 Mrs. Ada H. Gibbons in Washington, D.C. He died 15 January 1898 in Jackson County at age 57. Elizabeth and Wellington had a son Ora O., born 28 May 1867 and died in 1961 at age 94, who married 10 September 1890 in Jackson County Florence GLIDDEN who was born in March 1869. Ora was a bank cashier and was buried in Fairmount Cemetery. They also had a daughter Hallie E., born 22 March 1869 and died 4 December 1887 at age 18, who was buried in Fairmount Cemetery.

               156      v.    Margaret A. GILLILAND was born 5 December 1845 and died of acute myocarditis 25 March 1925 in Huntington Cabell County, West Virginia at age 79. She married Andrew WARD, the son of Abraham and Sophia (Howe) Ward, 4 January 1863 in Jackson County, Ohio. Andrew was born 28 November 1840 in Ohio and died in Newton Township, Pike County, Ohio 4 June 1892 at age 51. The couple’s children, all born in Pike County, were Jennie S, born in 1865 and died in 1953 at age 88, who never married; Ellen Elizabeth, born 21 March 1872 and died in 1946 at age 74, who married first 21 March 1889 W. W. SAILOR and second Ezra JONES 11 June 1899; John B., born 28 September 1874 and died 12 January 1906 at age 31 in Huntington, West Virginia; twin Mary F., born 16 August 1877 and died in 1952 at age 75, who married William S. MOORE 2 October 1895; twin Martha E., born 16 August 1877 and died in 1953 at age 76, who married Jacob Frank BALDWIN 1 January 1896 ; Charles, born 31 August 1879; Sarah G., born 27 October 1881 and died in 1958 at age 77, who married [--?--] COFFMAN; and Harry P., born 8 May 1886 and died in 1960 at age 74.

               157     vi.    George W. GILLILAND was born 14 April 1847 and married Susanna JONES 28 December 1871 in Jackson County, Ohio. He died 7 June 1922 in Jackson County at age 75, and was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township in that county. George was a coal operator in the 1880 federal census and a merchant in the 1900.  Susanna was born 1 July 1850 in Jackson County, the daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Miles) Jones of Wales. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage 21 August 1920 in Jackson, Jackson County at age 70, and was buried 24 August 1920 in Fairmount Cemetery. The couple had two daughters. Ida was born 6 November 1873 and died of cerebral apoplexy 12 September 1943 at age 69 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. She was buried 15 September 1943 in Fairmount Cemetery. Ida married John NEWVAHNER who was born circa 1868 in Ohio. Carrie Bertha was born 24 October 1876 and died 3 December 1948 at age 72. She never married.

               158    vii.    Mary F. GILLILAND was born 3 February 1849. She died 18 October 1872 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 23, and was buried in Antioch Cemetery. Mary married 7 December 1871 James R. WHITAKER and they had a daughter Marzella, born 18 April 1872 and died 30 November 1914 in Jackson County at age 42, who was with her Gilliland grandparents in the 1880 census as her father was also deceased at that time. Marzella married William Ira CHERRINGTON, a boilermaker, 11 November 1889 in Jackson County. He was born 23 February 1860 in Jackson County, the son of Marcus and Catharine (Radabaugh) Cherrington, and died of a cerebral hemorrhage and broncho pneumonia 4 July 1933 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio.

               159    viii.    John B. GILLILAND was born 20 November 1850 and died 10 December 1896 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 46. He was buried in Antioch Cemetery, Jackson County. On 11 December 1873 in Jackson County John married Elizabeth JOHNSON, known as Lizzie, who was born 11 November 1851 in Ohio. She died 23 July 1890 in Jackson County at age 38, and was buried in Antioch Cemetery. John and Elizabeth had children Myrta M., born 18 December 1874, who married Robert JOHNSON 18 January 1898 and died in Pueblo, Pueblo County, Colorado; Sanford S., born 17 August 1876 and died in 1959 at age 83, who married 26 October 1897 Gertrude L. FARRAR, the daughter of Lycurgus and Clarinda (Johnson) Farrar, who was born 26 September 1877 and died of chronic nephritis 15 May 1943 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio at age 65; and Louise Elizabeth, born 9 October 1886, who married 11 October 1905 Chester Arthur LAMBERT, the son of William and Addie (Hill) Lambert, who was born 1 September 1880.

               160     ix.    Martha GILLILAND, known as Mattie, was born 1 April 1852. She died 21 April 1948 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio at age 96, and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Scioto County. Mattie married 4 July 1878 in Jackson County, Ohio Noah J. DEVER, the son of William and Louisa (McDowell) Dever, who was born 17 August 1850 in Madison Township, Scioto County. He was married first 27 July 1876 to Lydia Austin, who was born 10 February 1858 in Ironton, Lawrence County, Ohio and died of typhoid fever in October 1877.  Noah graduated from the Cincinnati Law School in April 1873 and was admitted to the bar by the district court of Hamilton County. He immediately began the practice of law in Portsmouth, Scioto County. In May 1873, he was appointed one of the school examiners of Scioto County, Ohio, and held the office for twelve years.  He was elected prosecuting attorney for Scioto County in 1879 and served two terms. In 1886 he was elected a common pleas judge of the seventh judicial district and served two terms. He retired from the bench at the close of his second term. Noah died of lobar pneumonia 8 July 1917 in Portsmouth at age 66, and was buried 10 July 1917 in Greenlawn Cemetery. Mattie and Noah had three daughters. Louisa was born 8 April 1879 and died 5 October 1958 in Portsmouth at age 79. She married William R. SPRAGUE 12 September 1905 in Scioto County. He was born 17 October 1875 in Licking County, Ohio, the son of Austin E. and Mary E. (Bailey) Sprague. Martha was born 25 December 1885 and died in Portsmouth 7 October 1918 at age 32. She married 30 June 1909 in Scioto County Frank Warwick MOULTON, an attorney and son of C. J. and Mary (Smith) Moulton, who was born 14 February 1877 in Lucasville, Scioto County. Alice was born in October 1888 and died 5 August 1958 in Portsmouth at age 69. She never married.

               161      x.    James O. GILLILAND was born 22 May 1857. He died 3 May 1858 in Jackson County, Ohio, and was buried in Burnsides-Shoemaker Cemetery, Jackson County.

               162     xi.    Frankie GILLILAND was born 12 June 1859 and married Henry HARREL 20 December 1877 in Jackson County, Ohio. She died of mitral and myocardial insufficiency 11 February 1920 in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio at age 60, and was buried 14 February 1920 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Lucas County. Henry, the son of Daniel and Malinda (Dawson) Harrel, was born 1 December 1856 in Ohio. He died 12 October 1912 in Toledo at age 55. The cause of death was a fractured skull sustained in an automobile accident.  Henry was buried 15 October 1912 in Woodlawn Cemetery. Frankie and Henry had a daughter Rilla ‘Rillie’ Ethel, born 5 January 1879 and died 15 June 1955, who married Oscar LAKE 25 December 1897 in Jackson County. Oscar was born 22 July 1876. Rillie and Oscar and their two sons, Harrell Newel and Omar C., moved to Toledo some time before 1910 and Frankie and Henry resided with them in that census year.

 

     40.  Nathan4 GILLILAND (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 22 June 1821 in Jackson County, Ohio. He died 28 November 1863 in Jackson County at age 42 and was buried in Stephenson Cemetery, Hamilton Township, Jackson County. Nathan was manager of the Jackson Furnace at the time of his death.

     On 10 January 1844 in Scioto County Nathan married Catharine ADAMS, the daughter of George and Margaret (Schoonover) Adams, who was born 26 May 1825 in Scioto County. She died in childbirth 2 January 1850 in Jackson County at age 24, and was buried in Adams Cemetery, Madison Township, Scioto County.

     Known children of Nathan4 GILLILAND and Catharine ADAMS, all born in Ohio, were as follows:

               164      ii.    Sarah H. GILLILAND was born circa 1847 and married John SLAVENS 19 January 1866 in Pike County, Ohio. She died 17 November 1891 in Pike County. John was born 21 August 1834 in Pike County, the son of Charles and Margaret (McClure) Slavens and brother to Jacob who married his wife’s sister Margaret (see #163). His sister Nancy married Sarah’s uncle Hugh Gilliland (see #42 below). He died 26 February 1897 in Pike County at age 62. The couple had children Charles Clinton, born 16 October 1866 and died 14 June 1942 in Los Angeles County, California at age 75; Reuben W., born 7 August 1868 and died 16 February 1894 in Pike County at age 25, who married Mary C. SHONKWILER 9 August 1891 in Scioto County, Ohio; William George, born 1 March 1875 and died 8 May 1896 at age 21 in Pike County; and Margaret Florence, born 8 January 1878 and died of chronic atrophic arthritis 27 November 1934 at age 56 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, who married Fisher DANIELS 16 January 1897 in Pike County. Fisher was born in 1871 and died 27 January 1959 in Scioto County at age 87.

               165      iii.    George Adams GILLILAND was born in January 1850 and died 25 July 1921 in Washington, District of Columbia at age 71. He married 28 March 1869 in Pike County, Ohio Charity BUTCHER, the daughter of William and Nancy (Slavens) Butcher. She was born 28 March 1852 in Pike County and died 26 September 1921 in Washington, D.C. at age 69. Their children, all born in Vermilion County, Illinois except the eldest, were Orange Claiborne, born in December 1869 in Pike County, Ohio and died 1 March 1906 in Washington, D.C. at age 36, who married 19 September 1893 in Vermilion County Amy E. CHURCH; Henry R., born circa 1872; George W., born 10 June 1875 and died 24 May 1928 at age 52 in Washington, D.C.; twins Nancy Florine and Sarah Marguerite, born in November 1877; and Ada B., born in July 1888.

 

     41.  Hugh4 GILLILAND (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 5 February 1824 in Jackson County, Ohio. He died 17 September 1897 in that county at age 73, and was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. Hugh was employed as a teamster at Jackson Furnace for ten years then invested his savings in land in Jackson County and engaged in farming and dealing stock. He owned 440 acres in Franklin Township, 320 acres in Jefferson Township, and 310 acres in Licking Township where he lived. He also invested in Tropic Iron Furnace.

    Hugh married 1 March 1849 in Pike County, Ohio Nancy SLAVENS who was born 12 September 1827 in Pike County. She died in May 1897 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 69, and was buried in Fairmount Cemetery. Nancy was the daughter of Charles and Margaret (McClure) Slavens and sister of Jacob who married Margaret Gilliland (see #163) and John who married Sarah H. Gilliland (see #164).

     Known children of Hugh4 GILLILAND and Nancy SLAVENS, all born in Jackson County, Ohio, were as follows:

               166       i.    Sarah E.5 GILLILAND was born 19 November 1849. She died 22 March 1880 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 30, and was buried in Old Bunn Cemetery, Franklin Township, Jackson County. On 2 January 1868 Sarah married George W. SCHELLENGER, the son of Washington and Eliza (Ward) Schellenger, who was born 11 February 1844 and died 30 October 1937 in Rock Island, Rock Island County, Illinois at age 93. He was buried 2 November 1937 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. Their children were Emma Florence, known as Florence, born circa 1869, who married William DICKMAN 3 December 1903 in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana and resided in Rock Island, Illinois; Myrta B., born 17 October 1869 and died 31 January 1872 at age 2, who was buried in Old Bunn Cemetery; Nellie G., born in September 1872, who married Ralph H. DUNGAN 9 September 1891 in Jackson County; and Hugh E., born 9 July 1875 and died in March 1957 at age 81, who married 22 June 1904 in New Castle, Henry County, Indiana Emma C. DUNGAN who was born 4 July 1876, the daughter of Irvin and Anna M. (Liard) Dungan, and died in December 1963 at age 87.

               167      ii.    Charles GILLILAND was born 19 July 1851 and died 7 March 1874 at age 22. He was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County, Ohio. Charles taught school for a few years then entered Ohio University in Athens. In his second year his health began to fail, so he left school and traveled in the northwest for a time before his death.

               168      iii.    Margaret GILLILAND, called Marga, was born 20 January 1854 and died of left femoral thrombosis and chronic amygdalitis 23 October 1935 in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio at age 81. She was buried 25 October 1935 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County, Ohio. Marga married Hiram STEPHENSON, a shoe merchant, 20 April 1875. He was born 7 May 1847 in Jackson County and died there of cerebral arteriosclerosis 3 June 1923 at age 76.  Hiram was buried 6 June 1923 in Fairmount Cemetery. The couple had children Charles H. born 2 April 1876 and died 12 November 1879 at age 3; Bertram Shearer, born 24 October 1880 and died in May 1960 at age 79, who married Jesse BANE 5 September 1905 and resided in Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan; and Heber Hiram, born 15 February 1885 and died in February 1945 at age 60, who married first Mary MCCULLEY of Cambridge, Guernsey County, Ohio 29 August 1910 and second Bethel W. BORGES of Lima, Allen County, Ohio 17 November 1915.

               169     iv.    Florence Belle GILLILAND was born 6 June 1857. She died of an intestinal obstruction 16 December 1933 in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio at age 76, and was buried 18 December 1933 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County, Ohio. Florence married 25 December 1876 Charles Andrew ATKINSON, the son of Lewis A. and Amanda (Long) Atkinson, who was born 8 February 1852 in Jackson County. Florence and Charles, an attorney, resided in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and he died there 9 October 1925 at age 73. He was buried in Fairmount Cemetery. Their son Lewis Hugh was born 21 February 1878 in Jackson County and died in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska while a student at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

               170      v.    Julia GILLILAND was born 16 September 1858 and died 11 September 1938 in Gallipolis, Gallia County, Ohio at age 79. The cause of death was acute appendicits, peritonitis, cardiac myocarditis and coronary embolism. She was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County, Ohio 13 September 1938. Julia married jeweler Harry A. BEDEL 23 June 1885 in Jackson County. He was born 12 November 1850 in Baltimore, Baltimore County, Maryland, the son of Adam and Catherine Bedel, and died 12 June 1910 in Jackson County of chronic nephritis. Harry was buried 15 June 1910 in Fairmount Cemetery. Julia and Harry had a daughter Inez G., born in June 1886, who married circa 1915 Maurice WHELDON.

               171     vi.    Elizabeth Krouse GILLILAND was born circa 1863 and died in 1881 in Jackson County, Ohio.

               172    vii.    Eva M. GILLILAND was born 1 April 1866 and died of auricular fibrillation 27 March 1938 in Jackson County, Ohio at age 71. She was buried 29 March 1938 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. Eva married Thomas C. GERKEN 24 December 1890 in Jackson County. Thomas, an editor, was born 21 April 1860 in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, the son of William and Martha Gerken, and died of lobar pneumonia 8 October 1917 at age 57. He was buried 10 October 1917 in Fairmount Cemetery. The couple had two sons. Thomas Gilliland was born 20 December 1901 and died of pneumonia 17 October 1926 in Evanston, Cook County, Illinois at age 24. Theodore Hugh was born 17 June 1905 and died in June 1976 at age 71 in New York City.

 

     42.  Jacob4 GILLILAND (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 28 April 1827 in Jackson County, Ohio. He died of a gunshot wound at his home 27 February 1875 in Scioto County, Ohio at age 47, and was buried in Shumway Cemetery, Harrison Township, Scioto County.

     On 3 April 1851 in Scioto County Jacob married first Lucetta WHITE, the daughter of Daniel and Sarah (Osborn) White of Kentucky, who was born 11 October 1831 in Scioto County. She died 4 June 1855 in that county at age 23, and was buried in Shumway Cemetery. The couple may have had a son Henry H. born 14 July 1852.

     Jacob married second 31 August 1856 in Ohio Mary Baker who was born 6 September 1823 in Pennsylvania. She was married first to Joshua Welch in 1844 and had four children: Elizabeth, Louisa, William and George. Mary died 30 July 1898 in Scioto County at age 74.

     Known children of Jacob4 GILLILAND and Mary BAKER, all born in Harrison Township, Scioto County, Ohio, were as follows:

               173       i.    Jackson Harrison5 GILLILAND was born 25 May 1857 and died of apoplexy and senility 4 December 1945 in Harrison Township Scioto County, Ohio at age 88. He was buried 8 December 1945 in Monroe Cemetery, Scioto County. Jackson married first 17 January 1878 in Scioto County Phoebe Jane MONROE, the daughter of Leonard and Mary (McGee) Monroe, and sister of Lousina who married Jackson’s brother Nathan (see#174 below). She was born 24 July 1860 and died 18 April 1891 at age 30, and was buried in Monroe Cemetery. Their children were Russell, born 14 January 1879 and died 10 November 1935 in Scioto County at age 56, who married Annie M. WINKHOUSE 6 June 1900; Leonard, born 22 July 1881 and died 2 November 1957 at age 76 in Humboldt County, Iowa, who married Anna STROCK; Allen, born 12 April 1885, who married Lola M. SEFFENS 10 March 1908 and resided in Champaign County, Illinois; Gilbert E., born 4 June 1887 and died 9 September 1887 in Harrison Township, Scioto County; and Otto H., born 26 May 1889 and died 4 March 1960 at age 70, who married Lacy L. SEFFENS 5 July 1919 in Clinton County, Michigan. Jackson married second Lida/Lydia/Eliza WEEKS 22 September 1892 in Scioto County and they had sons Charles E., born 14 August 1895 and died 5 June 1967 in Michigan at age 71; and Aldon William, born 1 May 1901 and died 3 March 1990 at age 88, who married Iva B. PITTMAN and resided in Champaign County, Illinois. Lydia/Eliza was born 3 November 1875 in Scioto County, the daughter of Ananias and Hannah (Arman) Weeks, and died between 1901 and 1920.

               174      ii.    Nathan B. GILLILAND was born 7 November 1859. He died 24 November 1949 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio at age 90, and was buried in Monroe Cemetery, Scioto County. On 19 November 1884 in Scioto County Nathan married Lousina MONROE, the daughter of Leonard and Mary (McGee) Monroe and sister of Phoebe who married Nathan's brother Jackson (see #173 above). Lousina was born 29 June 1857 in Scioto County and died there 23 January 1925 at age 68. She was buried in Monroe Cemetery.  Nathan was a school teacher, then studied law and passed the bar in 1898. He served as a probate court judge in Scioto County until retiring in 1925. Their children were Mary E., born 17 June 1885 and died 9 September 1886 at age 1; Chloe Edith, born 10 March 1887 and died 22 March 1950 in Portsmouth, Scioto County at age 63, who married Allen Jefferson SLATTERY 29 June 1907 in Hamilton County, Ohio; Firman B., born 22 November 1890 and died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident 28 September 1943 at age 52 in Nile Township, Scioto County, who married Florence Russell BIERLEY; Evan Russell, born 1 December 1894 and died 29 February 1948 at age 53, who married Elsie Boynton TIPTON 19 July 1918 in Franklin County, Ohio; and Hazel Joyce, born 20 September 1898 and died 3 May 1989 in Los Angeles County, California at age 90, who married first Clarence CORYELL and second [--?--] RECTOR.

 

     43.  Jackson4 GILLILAND (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 22 December 1829 in Jackson County, Ohio. He married Jane ‘Jennie’ BAKER 14 November 1865 in Jackson County and died of arteriosclerosis 27 September 1910 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County at age 80. Jackson was buried 29 September 1910 in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County.

     Jennie, the daughter of Samuel and Jennie Baker, was born 17 July 1842 in Pennsylvania. She died of arteriosclerosis 11 June 1918 in Jackson County at age 75, and was buried 14 June 1918 in Fairmount Cemetery.

     Known children of Jackson4 GILLILAND and Jane ‘Jennie’ BAKER, all born in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio, were as follows:

               175       i.    Samuel Baker5 GILLILAND was born 18 October 1867. He died of prostate cancer 10 November 1936 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio at age 69, and was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. On 11 March 1888 in Jackson County Samuel married Ada Chloe DEVER, the daughter of Warren and Maggie (Stockham) Dever, who was born 17 May 1872 and died in 1951 at age 79. She was buried in Fairmount Cemetery. The couple had 11 children. Herbert Henry was born 31 October 1888 and died 25 September 1962 at age 73. He married Fredericka HAGEN 19 December 1914. Clyde S., born 18 September 1890 and died 17 July 1964 at age 73, married Elodia Bell LEWIS. Pearl Mae, born 3 December 1892, married Earl LANHART 30 January 1913 and died in 1987 at age 94. Roy Jackson was born 6 January 1895 and died 12 March 1925 at age 30. Floyd Newell was born 20 March 1897 and died 28 September 1975 at age 78. He married Edna Lenore MILLER 21 March 1918. Abbie Josephine, born 8 May 1899, died 7 October 1937 at age 38 and married Frank W. HERRMANN 1 February 1919. Homer Stewart was born 15 August 1901 and died 8 April 1986 at age 84. He married Mabel Marie SUDBROOK 17 September 1919. Fannie Margaret, born 25 December 1903 and died in 1984 at age 80, married Homer SIPES 8 May 1923. Clarence A. was born 7 June 1907 and died 15 September 1988 at age 81. Mildred M., born 27 August 1909 and died in March 1975 at age 65, married Harley MEENACH. Chloe Marie was born 20 February 1912 and died 29 April 1994 at age 82. She married Herman R. JUSTUS.

               176      ii.    Earl Cranston GILLILAND was born 20 November 1869 and died of a cerebral hemorrhage 28 March 1932 in Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio at age 62. He was buried 30 March 1932 in Bennett Cemetery, Scioto County. On 28 September 1890 Cranston, as he was also known, married Delia PARKS, the daughter of Robert and Sarah (Horton) Parks. She was born 3 August 1872 and died 6 July 1940 in Portsmouth at age 67. The couple had children Maude Elizabeth, born in April 1891; Harry M., born 23 February 1894 and died 28 May 1962 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio at age 68, who married Anna Opal MORGAN; and Blanche B., born in April 1896 and died 21 July 1972 at age 76, who married Homer POWELL 23 January 1924.

               177      iii.    Oscar C. GILLILAND was born 18 May 1875 and died 13 February 1947 in Hamilton Township, Jackson County, Ohio at age 71. He was buried in Fairmount Cemetery, Lick Township, Jackson County. On 2 January 1904 in Jackson County Oscar married Mary B. "Mame" MELDICK and had a son Edwin Vaught Gilliland born 10 April 1908 and died in December 1978 in Boca Raton, Palm Beach County, Florida at age 70. Mary was born 4 October 1883, the daughter of Philip H. and Phoebe (Gahm) Meldick, and died 30 August 1968 in Jackson County at age 84.

 

     44.  Harrison4 GILLILAND (Sarah3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 19 January 1837 in Jackson County, Ohio and died 11 April 1905 in Burbank, Los Angeles County, California at age 68. He was buried in Grandview Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles County. Harrison was a Methodist minister and in the mid-1860’s was president of a college at Battle Ground, Tippecanoe County, Indiana. In the 1870 census he was enumerated as president of Galesville University, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin and in 1880 was studying law in that county.

      Harrison married first 1 January 1861 in Athens County, Ohio Julia Ann WEBSTER, the daughter of Daniel B. and Lois Webster, who was born in June 1839 in Ohio. The couple divorced between 1871 and 1880 in Wisconsin and Harrison married second 4 September 1883 in Trempealeau County Atha C. ALLEN who was born circa 1849 in Massachusetts. Julia resided with her daughter Nellie and husband in Skyhomish, Snohomish County, Washington in the 1910 census, and died before 1920, likely in Skyhomish. Atha, a widow, was enumerated in the 1910 census in Burbank.

     Known children of Harrison4 GILLILAND and Julia Ann WEBSTER were as follows:

               178       i.    Webster N.5 GILLILAND was born 26 June 1862 in Jackson County, Ohio. He died 24 February 1908 in Vern River, Itasca County, Minnesota at age 45. Webster, a carpenter, married circa 1892 Nettie [--?--] who was born in May 1867 in Illinois. Her maiden name may have been Holmes, and she was married previously, likely to a Buck. She and Webster had a daughter Bertha, born in November 1893 in Minnesota.

               179      ii.    Luella GILLILAND was born in August 1864 in Battle Ground, Tippecanoe County, Indiana and died 3 December 1934 in Winona, Winona County, Minnesota at age 70. She was also known as Lula and Lulu. Luella married Leslie Leonard BROWN, the son of Nathan and Julie E. (Bartholomew) Brown, 22 May 1887 in Caledonia, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. Leslie, an attorney, was born 5 November 1859 in Minnesota and died 8 March 1934 in Winona at age 74. He was buried in Woodlawn Cemetery. They had sons Roscoe, born in July 1891 and died in 1917 at age 26; and Thomas M., born 4 January 1898 and died 11 July 1974 at age 76 in Pompano Beach, Broward County, Florida

               180      iii.    Georgia GILLILAND was born in August 1866 in Wisconsin and married Elmer E. CHAPPELL 12 November 1885 in Caledonia, Trempealeau County, Wisconsin. He was born 8 July 1861 in that state, the son of Darius D. and Caroline (Fowler) Chappell. The couple divorced and Elmer remarried circa 1896 and moved to Comanche County, Oklahoma where he died 21 March 1916 at age 54. In the 1900 census Georgia was enumerated with her mother and sister Nellie in Winona, Winona County, Minnesota and with her were her daughters Ethel, born in February 1887 and Myrtle, born in April 1889. All were given the last name of Gilliland incorrectly, and Georgia was mistakenly designated a widow.

               181     iv.    Nellie GILLILAND was born in May 1868 in Wisconsin. Nellie was a student and lodger in the home of Dewitt and Matilda (Riddle) Tirrill in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin in the 1900 census and it was here she met their son Edward Drew TIRRILL, born in February 1878 in Wisconsin, who she married circa 1902. In the 1910 census the couple was in Skyhomish, Snohomish County, Washington and with them was her widowed mother Julia Gilliland. Nellie gave her age as 36, rather than the 40 it was. In the 1920 census the couple was enumerated in Montgomery, Crook County , Oregon, and again Nellie gave an incorrect age, this time 39 rather than 50.

     There were no known children of Harrison4 Gilliland and Atha C. Allen.

 

     46.  George E.4 KROUSKOP (Jacob3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 12 May 1832 in Logan County, Ohio. He died 23 May 1897 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 65, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery in Richland Center in that county.

      George moved with his parents and siblings to Richland County in 1851 and for a year or two was engaged alternately in teaching school and running his father's saw-mill. In 1854 he entered the mercantile business, establishing a store near the Sextonville mills. Shortly afterwards he purchased the mills and continued these enterprises until 1865, when he moved to Richland Center and again engaged in the mercantile business for a number of years. In 1870 George opened a bank. He was one of the originators and principal stockholders in the Pine River Valley & Stevens Point railroad and served as the president of the company for several years. George was a Democratic member of the Wisconsin state senate 1870-1871 and 1874-1875.

     On 23 November 1855 in Richland County George married Elizabeth BLACK who was born 18 July 1833 in Virginia. She was the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth (McDonald) Black and sister of Amanda Black who married George’s brother William Krouskop (see #48 above). Elizabeth died 4 February 1919 in Wisconsin at age 85, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery.

     Known children of George E.4 KROUSKOP and Elizabeth BLACK, both born in Richland County, Wisconsin, were as follows:

               182       i.    William Edward5 KROUSKOP was born 8 June 1858 and died 30 August 1910 in Warm Springs District, Deer Lodge County, Montana at age 52. He was buried in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland County, Wisconsin. Ed, as he was also known, married Adeline H. HENDRICKS circa 1882 in Richland County. She was born 20 October 1860 in Iowa, the daughter of Samuel and Levina (Ream) Hendricks. She died 15 May 1940 at age 79, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery. The couple had no children.

               183      ii.    Eliza Amanda KROUSKOP was born 26 May 1861 and died 4 February 1952 in Wisconsin at age 90. On 31 October 1883 in Richland Center, Richland County, Wisconsin Eliza married John Robert COUMBE, Sr., the son of John and Sarah Ann (Palmer) Coumbe. He was born 1 January 1855 in Port Andrew, Richland County and died 2 April 1941 in Wisconsin at age 86. John was president of a bank in Blue River, Grant County, Wisconsin. Both Eliza and John were buried in Richland Center Cemetery. The couple had children Elizabeth Sarah, born in October 1884; John Robert, Jr., born 12 June 1891 and died in February 1965 at age 73; and Amanda Esther, born in July 1896 who married Carlton GODAGER and had a daughter Lydia.

 

     47.  Mary4 KROUSKOP (Jacob3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 7 March 1834 in Logan County, Ohio. She died 18 June 1901 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 67, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland County.

     Circa 1855 in Richland County Mary married Lemuel AKEY, the son of James and Sarah (McCall) Akey, who was born 23 April 1828 in Ohio. A dry goods merchant, he died 25 March 1913 in Richland County at age 84, and was buried in Richland Cemetery.

     Known children of Mary4 KROUSKOP and Lemuel AKEY, all born in Richland County, Wisconsin, were as follows:

               184       i.    Martha5 AKEY was born 18 March 1858 and married Nelson Harvey BURGOR 28 January 1883 in Richland County, Wisconsin. She died in that county 29 September 1930 at age 72, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland County. Nelson was born 5 March 1854 in Green County, Wisconsin, the son of Andrew R. and Mary E. (McCormick) Burgor, and died 21 June 1938 at age 84 in Dane County, Wisconsin. He was buried in Richland Center Cemetery. The couple had a daughter Mary Elizabeth, born 19 March 1884 and died 4 October 1977 in Houston, Harris County, Texas at age 93, who married Frank Lyall GRISWOLD 3 June 1908 in Viola, Richland County. He was born 27 October 1877 in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin and died 11 February 1932 in Dane County at age 54.

               185      ii.    Nellie Blanche AKEY was born 14 April 1861 and died 10 January 1913 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 51. She was buried in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland County. Nellie married Lewis Cass MCCOLLUM 28 January 1883 in Richland County. Lewis was born 8 January 1848 in Worcester County, Massachusetts, the son of Asa and Hadassah (Kingsbury) McCollum. His brother Julian Leroy McCollum married Eliza Krouskop, his wife’s aunt (see #52 below). Lewis died 24 June 1933 in Richland County at age 85, and was buried in Sextonville Cemetery, Richland County. The couple had no children.

               186      iii.    Amanda Elizabeth AKEY was born 12 November 1867 and died 23 April 1940 in Corpus Christi, Nueces County, Texas at age 73. Interestingly, on the 1900 and 1920 censuses her name was given as Lida A., and as Lida on the 1910 and 1930 censuses. On 22 September 1886 in Buena Vista, Richland County, Wisconsin she married Clark H. PEASE. He was born in March 1867 in Wisconsin, the son of Myron C. and Emma A. (Huntington) Pease. He died 14 August 1925 in Texas at age 58. Clark was president of City National Bank in Corpus Christi. The couple had a son Myron Akey, born 25 August 1890 in Wisconsin and died 4 October 1953 in Nueces County at age 63; and a daughter Emma M. born in July 1892 in Wisconsin.

 

     49.  Letitia Lord4 KROUSKOP (Jacob3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 28 May 1838 in Logan County, Ohio. She died 14 September 1918 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 80, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland County.

     On 14 May 1862 in Richland County Letitia married Joseph C. MCCORKLE, the son of James and Lillian ‘Sally’ Ann (Matthews) McCorkle, who was born 7 September 1834 in New York. He was a mate on a whaling ship in his youth and made two sea voyages which each lasted 35 months. Joseph settled in Richland County in 1862. He died 14 February 1913 in that county at age 78, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery.

     Known children of Letitia Lord4 KROUSKOP and Joseph C. MCCORKLE, all born in Richland County, Wisconsin, were as follows:

               187       i.    Carrie Belle5 MCCORKLE was born 18 April 1863. She died 3 March 1949 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 85, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland County, Wisconsin. Carrie never married.

               189      iii.    Jacob C. MCCORKLE was born 31 March 1867 and died 4 February 1931 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 63. He was buried in Richland Cemetery, Richland County, Wisconsin. Jacob, a farmer, never married.

               190     iv.    Samuel Clyde MCCORKLE was born 7 January 1873. He died 4 January 1941 in Wisconsin at age 68, and was buried in Richland Center Cemetery, Richland County, Wisconsin. According to his headstone Samuel was First Lieutenant, Medical Department, Captain of Reserve Corps, in World War I. He was a physician with a practice in West Allis, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin and never married.

               191      v.    George Krouskop MCCORKLE was born 20 January 1881 and married Ida Helen OSTERMEYER 26 August 1918 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. He died in April 1967 at age 86 in Dousman, Waukesha County, Wisconsin.  Ida was born 19 December 1881 in Baraboo, Sauk County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Conrad C. F. and Augusta Louise (Kruger) Ostermeyer. She married first Clarence Heathcote Wall in 1908 and had a son William Clarence Wall, born 15 September 1910 in Chicago, who died 2 August 2002 in Green Lake, Green Lake County, Wisconsin at age 91.  Ida died 19 September 1966 in Dousman at age 84. George and Ida had a son George born in 1920 in Chicago.

 

     52.  Eliza Seaman4 KROUSKOP (Jacob3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 18 February 1846 in Lake Township, Logan County, Ohio. She died 2 December 1926 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 80, and was buried in Sextonville Cemetery, Richland County.

     Eliza married 15 March 1864 in Richland County Julien LeRoy MCCOLLUM, the son of Asa and Hadassah (Kingsbury) McCollum, and brother of Lewis Cass McCollum who married Eliza’s niece Nellie Blanche Akey (see #185 above). Julien, also referred to as J. L. R., was born 4 January 1842 in Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts. When he was six years old his family moved to Wisconsin and at the age of nine they settled in Sextonville. Julien attended Bratton’s Business College in Chicago where he obtained a teachers certificate. At age 21 he was partners in a mercantile business near Sextonville with A. H. Krouskop, the brother of his future bride Eliza. Julien eventually purchased property in the Pine River Valley and operated a dairy and grain farm. He was elected to the Wisconsin state legislature in 1875 and 1876. Julien died 3 July 1931 in Richland County at age 89, and was buried in Sextonville Cemetery.

               193      ii.    Dock Curtis MCCOLLUM was born 30 August 1867 and died 17 October 1955 in Richland County, Wisconsin at age 88. He was buried in Sextonville Cemetery in that county. Dock married first Lula NOURSE, the daughter of Franklin and Hannah (Fellows) Nourse, 10 February 1900 in Richland County. She was born 6 November 1871 in Ithaca, Richland County and died 1 August 1900 in that county at age 28. Lou, as she was called, was buried in Sextonville Cemetery. Dock married second 1 June 1904 Lois M. THOMPSON, the daughter of William and Martha (Page) Thompson, who was married previously 10 January 1888 in Ithaca to Lewis H. Rist, the son of Henry and Eliza (Sedgwick) Rist. He was born 24 November 1864 in Sauk County, Wisconsin and died 2 March 1902 in Twin Bluffs, Richland County at age 37.  Lois was born 17 June 1868 in Wisconsin and died 18 January 1932 in Richland County at age 63. She was buried in Sextonville Cemetery.

     54.  Isaac M.4 WILKINS (Cynthia K.3 Krouskop, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born in 1845 in Logan County, Ohio. His date of death is unknown but he was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery, Zanesfield, Logan County.

     On 14 August 1866 in Logan County Isaac married Sarah Elizabeth SESLER, known as Elizabeth, who was born 26 September 1844 in Logan County, the daughter of John and Nancy (Garder) Sesler, and died there 19 September 1889 at age 44. She was buried in Mount Zion Cemetery.

     Known children of Isaac M.4 WILKINS and Sarah Elizabeth SESLER, all born in Logan County, Ohio, were as follows:

               195       i.    Leutitia N.5 WILKINS, also known as Lou, was born in 1867 and died in 1929 in Logan County, Ohio at age 62. She was buried in Bellefontaine City Cemetery, Bellefontaine, Logan County. Leutitia married Frank M. GUTHRIE 30 July 1885 in Logan County. Frank, the son of Thomas and Rebecca (Clapper) Guthrie, was born 5 March 1854 in Ohio and died 5 April 1918 in Bellefontaine at age 64. The cause of death was softening of the brain due to an injury to his head.  He was buried 7 April 1918 in Bellefontaine City Cemetery. Leutitia married second 24 September 1921 in Logan County Aaron R. GREGORY, the son of John and Katherine  (Copeland) Gregory, who was born 23 July 1865 in Logan County and married first Henrietta Dowell 28 April 1891.

               196      ii.    Cora M. WILKINS was born circa 1868 and married Samuel B. THARP 30 May 1889 in Logan County , Ohio. He was born 23 February 1864 in that county, the son of Thomas P. and Clara (Courter) Tharp.

               197      iii.    David W. WILKINS was born 20 November 1869 and married Ida J. BRICKER 24 November 1889 in Champaign County, Ohio.  Ida was born in February 1871 in Ohio. The couple had a daughter Ada Elizabeth, born in January 1891 who married Alva Otis HUFFER 3 October 1906 in Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana; and a son Wilbur I., born 22 July 1899 and died in March 1972 in Daviess County, Kentucky at age 72. In the 1900 federal census the family was in Harrison County, Champaign County and in the household was David’s brother William. Both David and William also were enumerated in 1900 in Chester Township, Wells County, Indiana where they worked as timber cutters. Either David died or he and Ida divorced as Ida married 16 May 1906 in Winchester, Randolph County, Indiana James Omer Coffield, a blacksmith, son of Thomas Henderson and Delilah Jane (Crawford) Coffield. In the 1910 census Ida and James, who was born 30 May 1878 in Indiana, were enumerated in Jefferson Township, Wells County, Indiana. In their household was her son Wilbur I. Wilkins, age 10. Ida and James were found in the 1920 and 1930 censuses in Petty Township, Lawrence County, Illinois, and in the 1940 census James, a widow, shared the household there with his step-daughter Ada E. Huffer, age 49. Ida died at age 65 in 1936 in Lawrence County, Illinois and James died there 2 April 1962 at age 84. Both were buried in Lawrenceville Cemetery, Lawrenceville, Lawrence County.

               199      v.    George F. WILKINS was born circa 1874. He married Dora Belle SHAWVER 24 October 1892 in Logan County, Ohio. She was born 3 July 1874 in Logan County, the daughter of Daniel and Hannah (Foust) Shawver.

               200     vi.    Nora WILKINS was born in April 1877.

               201    vii.    Lillian Ruth Elizabeth WILKINS, known as Lillie, was born in July 1878 and married Emory D. FULTZ 9 March 1897 in Logan County, Ohio. Emory was born 16 August 1872 in Pennsylvania, the son of Abraham and Susannah (Musser) Fultz, and died in 1940 in Michigan at age 68. He was buried in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit, Wayne County, Michigan. Lillie and Emory had children Hazel L., born 10 August 1897 in Ohio and died 12 October 1987 in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri at age 90, who married Frederick C. PAPENFUS 24 May 1922 in Beaverton, Wayne County, Michigan; Herman Lee, born 25 November 1899 in Ohio and died in December 1974 in Independence, Missouri at age 75, who married Martha E. KUHN 1 June 1924 in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan; and Lucille, born 12 August 1902 in Oscoda, Michigan. Lillie died at age 89 in 1967 in Independence, Missouri. She was buried in Mound Grove Cemetery there.

               202    viii.    Elmer Isaac WILKINS was born 24 May 1880 and died 26 November 1958 in Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio, at age 78. On 20 February 1901 in Champaign County Elmer married Myrtie Viola LOWER, the daughter of Robert P. and Eliza J. (Kuntz) Lower, who was born 19 August 1882 in Urbana, Champaign County. She died 6 December 1977 in Urbana at age 95. The couple had children Robert P. born circa 1902 and died 10 January 1964; Irene H., born 17 March 1904 and died 18 September 1995 at age 91, who married Wilmer C. WALTERS 5 June 1923 in Champaign County; Mabel D., born 12 September 1908 and died 27 May 2002 at age 93, who married Aaron Z. ADKINS 24 August 1925 in Champaign County; and Francis E., born 9 June 1911 and died 22 April 1948 at age 36 in Dayton, Montgomery County, Ohio, who never married and was a maintenance worker at Wright Field at the time of death. Francis was buried 25 April 1948 in Grand View Cemetery, Urbana.

               203     ix.    Della Blanche WILKINS was born 8 December 1885 and married Harry Eugene DOWNING 19 June 1907 in Logan County, Ohio. She died in December 1969 in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana at age 84. Harry, the son of William and Angeline (Coulter) Downing, was born 18 March 1883 in Hardin County, Ohio and died in 1938 in Indianapolis at age 55. Della and Harry had sons Richard Eugene, born 9 November 1918 and died 22 July 1989 in Indianapolis at age 70, who married Elizabeth Rose CRAWFORD; and Harry E., born 17 December 1922 and died 3 September 1986 at age 63. Della, Harry and both sons were buried in Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis

 

     55.  George W.4 KROUSKOP (David3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 11 January 1842 in Logan County, Ohio. He died 15 August 1925 in San Diego, San Diego County, California at age 83, and was buried in Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery, Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.

     On 9 January 1870 in Bellefontaine, Logan County, Ohio George married first Nancy Jane SEAMAN, the daughter of George and Harriet Seaman, who was born in March 1847 in that county. Soon after, the couple moved to Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado and in June 1877 George bought the Smith Brothers store, a grocery, located at what was then known as Old Saint Louis, and placed John W. Seaman, Nancy’s brother, in charge.  When the survey for the railway was changed from its first lines, George moved his stock of goods at Evans and Old Saint Louis to Loveland proper.

     Nancy died in 1910 in Phoenix at age 57, and was buried in Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery. George married second in 1912 in San Bernardino, San Bernardino County, California Mary Frances SHALLENBERGER, the widow of George Rist who was born in 1841 in Pennsylvania and died in 1895 in Larimer County, Colorado at age 54. Mary was born 7 February 1848 in Pennsylvania, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Boyd) Shallenberger, and died 26 July 1923 in San Diego at age 75. She was buried in Lakeside Cemetery, Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado.

     Known children of George W.4 KROUSKOP and Nancy Jane SEAMAN, all born in Larimer County, Colorado, were as follows:

          +   204       i.    Ernest E.5 KROUSKOP, born circa 1872 in Colorado; married Mabel A. LAWS; married Blanche I. MARSHALL.

               205      ii.    Bernice KROUSKOP was born 5 October 1872 and died 9 January 1953 in San Diego, San Diego County, California at age 80. On 3 July 1905 in San Diego she married physician and surgeon Joseph Carter HEARNE who was born 26 March 1851 in Versailles, Woodford County, Kentucky, the son of Franklin Perry and Catherine (Hieatte) Hearne. In 1870 Joseph resided in Columbia, Boone County, Missouri where he was a student at the university. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania then returned to Missouri where he married Fannie Elizabeth Brown 22 October 1874. They resided in Hannibal, Marion County, Missouri where she was born 7 February 1854. Fannie died in childbirth in 1884 and Joseph soon after moved to San Diego. He died there 9 May 1917 at age 66. Bernice and Joseph had no children.

               206      iii.    Leo KROUSKOP was born 5 October 1874 and died 26 February 1963 in San Diego County, California at age 88.

               207     iv.    Harriet Isabel KROUSKOP was born in 1876 and died in 1908 at age 32. She was buried in Greenwood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona.

               208      v.    David George KROUSKOP was born 26 October 1879 and married Maud S. [--?--] circa 1914 in Phoenix, Maricopa County, Arizona. He died in Phoenix 3 September 1958 at age 78. Maud was born 31 March 1885 in Missouri and died 1 December 1977 in Phoenix at age 92. Both David and Maud were buried in Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix. In the 1930 federal census David was proprietor of a used furniture store. In 1940 he was owner of an auto court.

     There were no known children of George W.4 Krouskop and Mary Shallenberger-Rist.

 

     56.  Solomon J.4 KROUSKOP (David3, Johann George2, Johann Georg1) was born 5 August 1845 in Logan County, Ohio and was a private in Company D 66th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and a corporal in Company B 132nd Ohio Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. He died in 1938 in Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado at age 93, and was buried in Loveland Burial Park, Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado.

     Solomon married first 7 April 1869 in Logan County Catharine KEMPER, the daughter of Madison Frederick and Jane (Smith) Kemper, who was born 23 January 1846 in Logan County. She died 18 September 1871 in that county at age 25, and was buried in Bellefontaine Cemetery, Lake Township, Logan County. The couple had no known children.

     On 1 October 1873 in Logan County Solomon married second Mary Elizabeth MCKINNON. She was born in January 1849 in Ohio and died in 1903 in Loveland, Colorado at age 54. Lizzie, as she was known, was buried in Loveland Burial Park.

     Solomon married third circa 1905 in Loveland Mary L. BOWER who was born in March 1850 in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa and moved to Colorado in 1863 with her family.  Mary was married first to George Kempton and resided in Greeley, Weld County, Colorado. She died after 1930, likely in Loveland.

     Known children of Solomon J.4 KROUSKOP and Mary Elizabeth MCKINNON were as follows:

               209       i.    Carrie May5 KROUSKOP was born 6 August 1874 in Galion, Crawford County, Ohio, according to Ohio County Births 1856-1909, and 1 January 1874 per the California Death Index 1940-1997. She died 7 June 1957 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California at age 83. Carrie married [--?--] HOWARD.

               210      ii.    Minnie B. KROUSKOP was born 3 December 1875 in Logan County, Ohio.

               211      iii.    Edna S. KROUSKOP was born in December 1877 in Logan County, Ohio.

               212     iv.    Jesse William KROUSKOP was born 28 May 1886 in Larimer County, Colorado. He married Alice Minerva CONRAD, born 15 December 1892 in Colorado, and was enumerated with her in the household of her parents John and Alice (Whitley) Conrad of Illinois in the 1920 federal census in Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California. Jesse and Alice were listed on the California Voter Registration rolls for 1922 and 1924 at 2832 Frederick Street in Los Angeles where he was a vulcanizer. It is likely that Jesse died and Alice married second circa 1929 in Los Angeles Emery Clyde Ireland, Sr., a salesman, born 4 December 1880 in Kansas. In the 1930 census the couple and his son Emery Clyde, Jr., by his previous wife Jane D. Jones, and Alice’s widowed mother were enumerated at 2824 Frederick Street. Emery, Alice and her mother were at 2822 Frederick Street in the 1940 census. Alice died 8 April 1943 in Los Angeles at age 50. Emery died 8 July 1958 at age 78. Both were buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, Los Angeles County.

               213      v.    Harrison G. KROUSKOP was born 22 July 1888 in Loveland, Larimer County, Colorado and died 18 May 1967 in Missoula, Missoula County, Montana at age 78. Circa 1911 in Montana He married Ethel May SANFORD, the daughter of Christopher Abraham and Agnes Mary (Weitzell) Sanford, who was born 29 February 1888 in South Dakota and died in August 1977 in Oregon at age 89. Her last known residence was Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon. The couple had no children.

 

     73.  Peter Arrell Brown4 WIDENER (Sarah3 Fulmer, Anna Maria2 Krouskop, Johann Georg1) was born 13 November 1834 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He was a butcher who, thanks to the Civil War and his Republican Party connections, got a $50,000 government contract to supply meat to all Union soldiers within 10 miles of Philadelphia during the Civil War. In 1873 he served as Philadelphia's city treasurer and in 1883 established the Philadelphia Traction Company and later started buying railways, like the Pennsylvania Railroad, then the country's largest, and streetcar companies in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Baltimore and Chicago. He was a director of both the Reading Railroad and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. It is said that in order to secure his grip on the rails, Widener bribed the Philadelphia city council and the Pennsylvania legislature. An organizer of both U.S. Steel and the American Tobacco Company, he, along with J. P. Morgan, was a top shareholder in the International Mercantile Marine, owner of the White Star Line whose flagship was the Titanic. His son George and grandson Harry died in the sinking of that ship on its maiden voyage 15 April 1912. At the time of his death 6 November 1915 in Elkins Park, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania at age 80, Peter was one of the wealthiest Americans and left an enormous fortune to his heirs. He was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.

     On 18 August 1858 in Philadelphia Peter married Hannah Josephine DUNTON, also known as Josephine, the daughter of John Lewis and Susan B. (Pearson) Dunton. She was born in 1836 in Pennsylvania. Peter and Josephine built Lynnewood Hall in Elkins Park, a 110-room Georgian-style mansion designed by Horace Trumbaer. The couple were avid art collectors and their collection included more than a dozen paintings by Rembrandt as well as works by then new artists Edouard Manet and Auguste Renoir. Josephine died at age 60 on 31 July 1896, off the coast of Maine on the family yacht. She was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

     74.  Emma Jane4 WIDENER (Sarah3 Fulmer, Anna Maria2 Krouskop, Johann Georg1) was born 15 November 1837 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. She died 6 May 1901 in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey at age 63.

     Circa 1858 in Philadelphia Emma married Thomas Mason KITE, known as Mason, the son of Joseph Sellers and Jane (Morgan) Kite. He was born in 1835 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died 28 December 1870 in Philadelphia at age 35.

      Some time between 1860 and 1865 Emma and Mason divorced and she married second Samuel Champion COOPER, the son of Joseph W. and Rebecca F. (Champion) Cooper. He was born in April 1840 in New Jersey and died in Camden in 1904 at age 64.

     Known children of Emma Jane4 WIDENER and Thomas Mason KITE were:

               223       i.    Adele Annie5 KITE was born 18 January 1859 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and married John Lawrence FITZGERALD 26 November 1879 in Philadelphia. He was born 16 October 1858 in New Jersey and died 23 January 1888 in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey at age 29. John was the son of Wilson H. and Mary Joanna (Colhouer) Fitzgerald. Adele and John had a son Wesley Chew, born 3 August 1881 in Camden, who married Esther Hill FITHIAN, the daughter of Francis R. and Mary Emma Dunn (Hill) Fithian, who was born 7 April 1883 in New Jersey and died 13 January 1967 in Pennsylvania at age 83. Wesley died 16 March 1931 in Pennsylvania at age 49 and Adele died 2 January 1942 in Pennsylvania at age 82.

     Known children of Emma Jane4 WIDENER and Samuel Champion COOPER, both born in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey, were as follows:

               224       i.    Joseph Walter5 COOPER was born 21 May 1869 and died in May 1933 at age 64. On 19 April 1893 he married Nellie Sue INMAN, the daughter of Sam and Jane D. Inman, who was born in November 1871 in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia. They had four children: Samuel, born 14 February 1894 in Atlanta and died there in June 1974 at age 80; Jennie, born in April 1896 in Atlanta who married Donald Carleton STANLEY; Joseph Walter, Jr., born 4 January 1899 in Atlanta and died there in June 1972 at age 73; and Mildred, born 16 May 1903 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Joseph was a real estate broker in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey in the 1900 census and later in Philadelphia.

               225      ii.    Rebecca Fulmer COOPER was born 22 February 1872 and married first Samuel William MORTON 15 December 1891. A physician, he was born circa 1863 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, the son of Thomas and Ann (Flintcroft) Morton of England, and died of consumption 4 December 1892 in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey. Rebecca and Samuel had a daughter Marian Cooper, born in December 1892 in Camden, who married first Herman Everett HICHBORN 13 October 1911 in Somerville, Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Herman, a dentist, was born 4 September 1888 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, the son of Herman G. and Ezoa J. (Parker) Hichborn. Herman either died or the couple divorced and Marian married second circa 1918 Charles Crosby ROGERS who was born 3 June 1894 in Lincoln, Lancaster County, Nebraska, the son of George Henry and Eliza Jane (Green) Rogers, and died in May 1965 at age 70. Marian died 21 April 1871 in Massachusetts at age 79. Rebecca married second circa 1901 George E. SHERMAN. She died of hardening of the arteries 28 May 1915 in Lynn, Essex County, Massachusetts at age 43, and was buried 2 June 1915 in Pine Grove Cemetery there.

 

     76.  Addison Fulmer4 GILBERT (Mary3 Fulmer, Anna Maria2 Krouskop, Johann Georg1) was born 16 March 1826 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died there 20 April 1906 in at age 80. He was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.

     Circa 1851 Addison married Caroline KING who was born in February 1836 in Pennsylvania. She died 2 December 1900 in Philadelphia at age 64, and was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

               230      v.    Robert Elmer GILBERT, Sr., was born in December 1861 in Pennsylvania and died after 1940 in that state. He married circa 1886 Barbara  T. SAGER who was born 15 November 1865 in Pennsylvania, and they had children Addison F., born 14 January 1887 and died in November 1972 at age 85; Frank Sager, born 4 August 1888; Ida J., born circa 1892; Robert Elmer, Jr., born 22 October 1893 and died in May 1980 at age 86; George W., born 30 August 1896; Caroline I., born in May 1899 who married Harry G. KEIN; Mary E., born circa 1902; and Harry W., born circa 1905.

               231     vi.    Harriet GILBERT was born in 1864 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died there 28 May 1869 at age 5. She was buried in Laurel Hill, Philadelphia.

               232    vii.    Caroline GILBERT was born in 1868 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. She died there 14 December 1871 at age 3, and was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.

               233    viii.    Sarah GILBERT, known as Sadie, was born 10 September 1872 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and married George E. HETHERINGTON there circa 1896. He was born in December 1851 in Pennsylvania. His mother Rebecca was born in Pennsylvania and his father Francis came to the United States from Ireland in 1846 and was a watchman and worked in an oil cloth factory, as did George. Sadie and George had a son Francis, born 18 September 1898 and died in January 1964 at age 65; and a daughter Florence May, born circa 1905, who married [--?--] PARKER. George died between 1930 and 1940 in Philadelphia, and Sadie died after 1940.

               234     ix.    Gilbert GILBERT was born in 1875 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died there 4 September 1878 at age 3. He was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.

               235      x.    George William GILBERT was born 20 May 1875 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

               236     xi.    Maria GILBERT was born in 1877 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. She died there 8 August 1877 and was buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia.

 

     82.  Washington Fayette4 FULMER (Michael3, Anna Maria2 Krouskop, Johann Georg1) was born 15 June 1840 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He died 8 December 1907 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County at age 67, and was buried 12 December 1907 in Fernwood Cemetery, Delaware County, Pennsylvania.

     Washington served in Baker's Pennsylvania Regiment in the Civil War. The regiment was the 71st Pennsylvania Infantry, named after its first colonel, Senator Edward Baker of Oregon. He also served in the 16th Regiment Veteran Reserve Corp.  A career semipro and minor league player, Washington was aged 35 on 19 July 1875 when he played in his one professional baseball game for the Brooklyn Atlantics, going 2-for-4. The team won only two games all year, in the last season of the National Association's existence. At the time of his death Washington was a fireman for the Philadelphia Water Department .

     Circa 1867 in Philadelphia Washington married Amelia A. [--?--] who was born in 1848 in Pennsylvania and died in Philadelphia in 1924 at age 76. She was buried in Fernwood Cemetery.

               237       i.    Ida S.5 FULMER was born in November 1875 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and never married. She worked as a foreman in a silk hosiery factory, a dressmaker and housekeeper, and died after 1940 in Pennsylvania.

 

     84.  Henry Clay4 FULMER (Michael3, Anna Maria2 Krouskop, Johann Georg1) was born 28 July 1846 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and died 13 February 1913 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County at age 66.

     Circa 1865 in Pennsylvania Henry, a butcher, married Mary C. [--?--] who was born in October 1846 in Pennsylvania. She died between 1920 and 1930 in Philadelphia.

     Known children of Henry Clay4 FULMER and Mary C. [--?--], all born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, were as follows:

               238       i.    Samuel C.5 FULMER was born in May 1866 and married Mary G. [--?--] circa 1901 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. She was born circa 1882 in Pennsylvania. The couple had sons Edward Gibson, born 26 November 1902 and died 17 February 1992 at age 89; and Amos Geikler, born in November 1908 and died 17 March 2001 at age 92; last known residence Villanova, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Samuel was a butcher and meat inspector in Philadelphia.

               239      ii.    Sarah FULMER was born in 1870. She died before 1880 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.

               240      iii.    Edgar D. FULMER was born in October 1874 and died between 1910 and 1917 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He married circa 1901 Letitia B. ‘Lettie’ COPPLE, born in October 1879 in Philadelphia, the daughter of John and Jane ‘Jennie’ Copple. The couple had a son Harry, born circa 1903 in Philadelphia. Lettie died after 1940.

               241     iv.    Amelia FULMER was born in May 1876.

               242      v.    Emmaline FULMER, known as Emma, was born in November 1880. She resided in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania and never married.

               243     vi.    Hemmings Brown FULMER, Sr., was born 12 October 1882 and died in December 1969 at age 87. His last known residence was Hatboro, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Hemmings married 12 May 1905 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania Viola BONT, the daughter of George Washington and Joanna Bont, who was born in March 1880 in New York. The couple’s children, all born in Philadelphia were Edgar M., born 9 December 1905 and died in May 1962 in Pennsylvania at age 56, who married Mary H. ANDERSON; Myrtle E., born circa 1916; and Hemmings Brown, Jr., born 29 November 1917 and died in October 1985 in Delaware County, Pennsylvania at age 67.

               244    vii.    Frank Anderson FULMER was born 15 September 1884 and married Florence M. [--?--] circa 1909. It was his second marriage. Florence was born circa 1889 in Pennsylvania. The couple had children Frank K., born circa 1910; Harry L., born circa 1912; Florence M., born circa 1915; George E., born in 1919; Eleanor I., born circa 1925; and Emma E., born circa 1930, all in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Frank was a pipe fitter for an automobile company.

 

     87.  Charles John4 FULMER (Michael3, Anna Maria2 Krouskop, Johann Georg1) was born 12 February 1851 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. He died 15 February 1940 in Philadelphia at age 89, and was buried in Fernwood Cemetery, Fernwood, Delaware County, Pennsylvania

     Charles was known as Chick Fulmer when playing professional baseball. Debuting 5 June 1871 with the Rockford Forest Citys, he played 11 seasons in the major leagues, with the National Association at its inception, with the National League at its inception, and with the American Association at its inception. Primarily a shortstop at a time when fewer games were played in a regular season, he never appeared in more than 92 games in any one season. Beginning at age 20, he played in all five seasons that the National Association existed, hitting .307 for the 1872 New York Mutuals, third highest on the squad. He was in the new National League in 1876 and in 1879-1880. As a 31-year-old veteran he still played well for the pennant-winning 1882 Cincinnati Red Stockings, hitting .281. In 1883, his 5 home runs and 52 RBI were among the league leaders, although his batting average was below the team average. At the time he was one of the oldest players in the league and his career went down after that. His final game was 16 August 1884 with the St. Louis Browns. Charles told the "Sporting Life" that he had been a drummer boy for the Southwark Guard in the Civil War, a position not considered formal military service.

     Circa 1875 Charles married Annie Virginia WYATT who was born in October 1856 in Dover, Kent County, Delaware, the daughter of John and Ann Wyatt.

     Known children of Charles John4 FULMER and Annie Virginia WYATT, both born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, were as follows:
